A client came to Ardra Lab with a simple but high-impact challenge:
“We need a way to locate PT cables under tension—without breaking concrete or using expensive X-ray machines.”
Post-tension (PT) cables run beneath concrete slabs and are critical to structural safety. But locating them accurately—especially during repair, drilling, or retrofitting—is notoriously difficult and risky. Traditional solutions often rely on bulky, high-cost X-ray machines worth ₹25 lakhs, which are not only expensive but also impractical for widespread onsite use.
We began by deeply analysing the client’s real-world constraints: the device had to work for a cable 1 foot beneath concrete, detect tensioned PT cables, deliver reliable precision in outdoor conditions, and remain affordable enough to be used frequently across projects.
With these requirements mapped clearly, we engineered and developed a precision detection device capable of locating PT cables with ±2 cm accuracy, even 300mm below the concrete surface. The result was a rugged, practical tool designed for field engineers—fast to deploy, easy to use, and accurate enough to dramatically reduce risk during construction work.
The Big Impact: High Precision at a Fraction of the Cost
What made this product truly transformative was its economics.
Our solution cost: ₹50K
Replaced systems costing: ~ ₹25L
This shift turned a niche, expensive process into a portable, affordable solution—making cable detection accessible for routine use instead of only high-budget projects.
The product is filed for patent by our client.
